Weapons permit applications online for Polk County

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Residents in Polk County can now submit an online application when seeking a weapons permit.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office says residents can apply online at any time of the day. Paper applications will no longer be accepted, but residents can visit the sheriff’s office for assistance.

Like the prior system, residents will still be required to visit the sheriff’s office once the application has been approved to show identification and training documentation. Residents will be notified via email about their application status.

There will be a $4 convenience fee for all credit and debit card orders made online. Cash payments can be made in person at the sheriff’s office.
