Weightlifting competition raises money for the Y’s annual campaign

ONALASKA, Wis. (WKBT) – The R.W. Houser Family YMCA hosted “Rumble at the Y” on Saturday.

It’s a weight-lifting competition for the Y’s annual campaign, which raises money to make its facilities accessible to everyone.

People of all fitness levels took part.

They are sponsored by others to lift.

This year there were 24 participants, most of whom were women.

That includes one 65-year-old woman who deadlifted 275 pounds.

It’s a challenge that lets people push past their limits.

“It’s very, very empowering for most people when they come in here and learn like, ‘oh wow I can actually do this weight, oh wow I can actually deadlift this’,” said Christopher Matt, Wellness Director at R.W. Houser Family YMCA.

This is the 2nd Annual Rumble at the Y.

Last year the event raised $2,500s for the Y’s campaign.
