West Iowa town releases partially treated sewage

KIRON, Iowa (AP) — An electrical problem has been blamed for the release of partially treated sewage by the west-central Iowa city of Kiron.

The Iowa Natural Resources Department says the problem shut down a pumping station, releasing the wastewater into East Otter Creek. Water samples are being checked for bacteria and other pollutants.

The city expects power to be restored Tuesday and complete sewage treatment to resume.
