West Salem high schoolers volunteer at food pantry

WEST SALEM (WKBT) – West Salem High School students are using their language skills to help families at their local food pantry.

The Care and Share Food Pantry serves everyone who is in need, but for many, language can be a barrier.

Every Saturday, student volunteers who are taking Spanish at the high school can help serve and interpret for the families who need it.

“If there’s a stigma around food pantry, they might not actually seek help,” said junior Sydney Laursen. “Just having the means and ability, I think is a great asset in the community. ”

Volunteers encourage any Spanish-speaking family in need to come and use the pantry.

And if you are able to help, donations can be brought to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in West Salem.
