West Salem Schools renovation allows focus on security

When the kids are away, the construction workers stay.

As the school year comes to a close, renovations to the West Salem School buildings are continuing.

As part of the work buildings are receiving security upgrades, like additional locks and security camera upgrades.

The upgrades give the district a chance to review how it operates.

“More than just brick and mortar, it is about procedures and awareness, so if we think about about having a boys and girls club in the middle of that building, having another door on it. How are they screening people, what are they doing with their doors, all those sorts of things that need to be thought about,” said Troy Gunderson, Superintendent of the West Salem School District.

Renovations to the West Salem Middle School are scheduled to be done in mid-August.
