West Salem sends boys, girls cross country to State

First time both have gone together since 2008

For the first time since 2008, both the boys and girls West Salem cross country teams will run at a State meet.

It’s back-to-back State trips for the boys after an eighth place finish last year, and despite graduating three of their top runners from that group, the new guys have kept the success going.

The girls are back for the first time since 2015 and coming off their conference championship since 2008. There’s not a single senior on this girls squad, but there is depth; Coach Stakston says four of them have been the top runner at some point.

So with confidence high, both teams are ready to make some noise at State.

“We really want to get to the 2-5 range,” junior Dawson Gronemus said. “I really want to get second place if I can for the team.”

“It’s been awesome to have the community see just how far we’ve gotten and to cheer for us, because it’s been so long since our girls have been able to race [at State],” said Morgan Quackenbush.
