Westby Elementary holds pumpkin fundraiser
WESTBY, Wis. (WKBT)–One local school is helping fight cancer, one painted pumpkin at a time.
Westby Elementary is holding a pumpkin fundraiser to help raise money for two area women currently fighting breast cancer.
While the kids may not understand what cancer is, the school principal says they do understand what it means to help someone.
“What kids know is that breast cancer is an illness,” said principal Bruce Peterson. “It’s something that’s touched all of them. In some way or another, they know someone who has some cancer. They don’t necessarily know more than that, but they know they can help people and they can show compassion.”
The fundraiser will continue to take donations on their website until this Sunday at 5 p.m.
