Westby man wins ’77 Corvette in rotary club raffle

LA CROSSE, Wis. — A Westby man is driving around in new set of wheels, a 1977 classic Corvette to be exact.

Howard Sherpe won the car in a raffle put together by the Valley View Rotary Club. The organization has been selling raffle tickets for the drawing since March.

Sherpe bought his ticket back in May at Westby’s Syttende Mai celebration. He was one of about 4500 entries in the raffle.

“I just bought one to help support the rotary more than anything. You never expect to win and they thought I should buy 3 for 20 and I thought $10 is enough, it only takes one to win never thinking I’d actually win,” said Sherpe.

The Valley View Rotary raised about $13,500 that’s being split between a number of organizations in our community, including Operation Homefront and the WAFER food pantry.
