Western Technical College cuts ribbon on Cavalier Esports Arena

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Gamers at Western Technical College are celebrating the official opening of the Cavalier Esports Arena.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony took place Tuesday morning for the state-of-the-art facility.

The arena has PCs as well as Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo consoles.

Having this gaming facility may attract more students to learn at Western and begin their careers in the La Crosse area, said Western President Roger Stanford.

“Our employers win because we get [the students] in these great jobs that are in trades, technology, IT, business, and healthcare, and so if this is the pathway to getting an amazing job, we’re all for it,” says Stanford.

He also says students who participate learn leadership and teamwork skills.

Just like other school athletics, students have to keep up their grades to stay on the team.
