Western Technical College gets grant for Fire Training Academy program
LA CROSSE (WKBT) – The Youth Fire Training program at Western Technical College is getting a huge funding boost from the Western Technical College System.
The WTCS presented a check for $194,792 on Wednesday.
The training program gives high school students an early opportunity to get credits towards certifications that allow them to start their firefighting career.
These funds will go towardsa trailer that can transport fire training equipment between schools.
“We have most of our fire equipment in Sparta, and it’s wonderful but it’s not convenient for people around the district,” said President of Western Technical College Roger Stanford. “We needed another set of fire gear. Now we have it and we can rotate this fire gear and do different schools at different times and offer this training.”
Stanford says this extra funding will help expose younger people to a career in public safety.
