Whitefish Bay to rename park for Counsell
WHITEFISH BAY, Wis. (AP) — A park in a Milwaukee suburb will be renamed to honor a former Brewers player who now works for the club.
Water Tower Park in Whitefish Bay will be dedicated as “Craig Counsell Park” in a ceremony on Saturday.
He’s currently the Brewers special assistant to the general manager and lives in Whitefish Bay. He also graduated from high school there in 1988.
The 15-year veteran owns a career .255 batting average in 1,623 career games. He scored the game-winning run in Game 7 of the 1997 World Series for the Florida Marlins. He was also a member of the World Series Champion Arizona Diamondbacks in 2001.
He announced his retirement from playing with the Brewers in January.
