WIAA cancels winter sports season, ending girls and boys basketball playoffs

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WKBT)- The WIAA Board of Control has voted to cancel the remainder of the Winter sports season, effectively ending girls and boys basketball playoffs immediately.

Three area girls’ basketball teams; Aquinas, Melrose-Mindoro, and Bangor will not get a chance to play for a gold ball at the state tournament being held right now in Green Bay. Aquinas and Mel-Min won their respective games Thursday night and were set to meet Saturday to play for a state title.

Bangor was set to play Friday in its state semi-final game.

The WIAA has news conference planned for Friday morning.
