Widow shares her story of overcoming tragedy after loss
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – An active community member was being remembered on Sunday.
Ben Splichal Larson grew up in the area.
He was a Central grad, an active member of the church, a singer and composer.
During a 2010 mission trip to Haiti with his wife, an earthquake hit and he became trapped inside a building.
But nstead of yelling for help, he started singing hymns.
People heard him and tried to help, but it was too late.
His wife Renee wrote in her book, A Witness, about loss and rebuilding after tragedy.
During a presentation at Good Sheperd Lutheran Church on Sunday, the community reminded her that her husband was loved by many.
“People still remember him and remember his family very fondly,” said Paster Harald Bringsjord.
In addition to her presentation, there was a concert and service honoring his life.
