Winona community supports Ukraine through Music Sunday
Three different music groups put on a concert at the Wesley United Methodist Church
WINONA, Wis. (WKBT) – The community of Winona united Sunday to support the children affected by the war in Ukraine – through music. Three different music groups put on a concert at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Winona.
The event included presentations from people impacted by the war, like Tyler Jacob – a native of Winona – who experienced the war firsthand when the Russians held him captive for 10 days before allowing him to return home. Organizers said events like this help people contribute.
“I think all of us feel like what can we do, we feel so far removed, and besides our prayers, it’s also good because there’s money needed,” organizer Steve Bachler said.
Four local jazz musicians formed a quartet called “Kyiv Kombo” specifically for the event. All of the money raised Sunday will go to UNICEF, which already has people on the ground to help children and their families there.
