Winona company producing World Series merchandise for excited fans

Wincraft producing World Series gear for Cubs, Indians in historic World Series

An area company is hoping to give baseball fans a little something to remember from a historic World Series match-up.

Wincraft in Winona is making commemorative merchandise for the series between the Cleveland Indians and Chicago Cubs, which will be shipped to fans across the country.

They’re making everything from pennants and flags to can coolers and lanyards to help fans celebrate the accomplishment.

Before this year, the Cubs hadn’t been to the World Series since 1945 and haven’t won the championship since 1908. The Indians are making their first trip to the ‘Fall Classic’ since 1997 and haven’t won the Series since 1948.

“Both markets are ideal,” said Dave Schipper, Wincraft’s Vice President of Product Management. “We would’ve never expected the Cleveland Indians and the Cubs to be there the same year. The Cubs are still about three times bigger (in sales) than the Indians, but the Indians are catching up fast. So it is just a tremendous time at Wincraft.”

After the World Series, Wincraft will go from producing 20 Cubs or Indians products to about 45 to commemorate either team’s historic win.
