Winona semitruck collecting Hurricane Harvey relief items

After seeing coverage of the fallout of the storm, Winona resident Lynette Sweazey says she decided she had to do something.

She talked to her husband about it, and Sweazey says he volunteered to drive a semi-truck full of supplies down to Texas.

They recently set the truck up outside of Riverport Inn and have since seen hundreds of donations of hygeine products and toiletries come in from across the area after their Facebook post went viral.

“This is absolutely amazing. It brings tears to my eyes,” says Sweazey. “It’s just incredible to see how Winona has pulled together to make this happen.”

Donations will be collected until September 22nd, in order to give the Houston area more time to recover from the storm.

The truck will leave for Texas the following day.
