Winona State to ring in new tradition for graduates

The commencement bell will be available for students following commencement ceremonies

WINONA, Minn. (WKBT) – Winona State will ring in a new tradition at its spring commencement ceremony later this month.

Graduates will have the chance to ring the University’s new ‘Commencement Bell’.

Members of the WSU community gathered on campus this morning for the bell’s first ringing.

“I think they’re really very excited about this, because they’re the first. 163 years nobody has done this. They’ll be the first. And then forever after all of our students will get that opportunity,” said Winona State University president Scott Olson.

Nearly 1,200 graduates will have the chance to ring the new bell following a pair of name reading ceremonies Friday.
