Winona Volunteer Services launch annual food shelf challenge
WINONA, Minn. (WKBT) — The Winona Volunteer Services Food Shelf kicked off its annual month-long food collection challenge on Friday.
The theme is “Open Your Heart,” encouraging people to help stock basic items on the food pantry’s shelves.
Organizers said donations help Winona’s most vulnerable neighbors fight rising food prices.
“We definitely have our homeless population,” said executive director Sandra Burke. “Our staff will work with those individuals to help find them housing or get them to a homeless shelter in Rochester or La Crosse.”
WVS will accept non-perishable food items, as well as cash and check donations.
During the month of May, the nonprofit served more than 630 households.
