WINONA, Minn. — State and local authorities are investigating after a Winona woman dies after being hit by a vehicle while on her way to a farmer’s market.
Winona Police say 90-year-old Evelyn Shiel was walking in a crosswalk at the corner of Second and Main Streets in Winona Saturday morning when she was hit by a vehicle driven by 22-year-old Nicole Golden of Winona.
4045184Shiel was taken to Community Memorial Hospital in Winona, and was later transferred to a hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, where she died from her injuries.
Deputy Police Chief Tom Williams tells News 8 the Minnesota State Patrol is assisting in their investigation. Williams says the intersection in question is a four-way stop, but it is not clear if Golden stopped at a stop sign before hitting Shiel.
