Winona’s Big Muddy to take COVID-19 break, but Crazy Days to sub for ‘Sweet Stroll’

WINONA, Minn. — Fans of the Big Muddy Brew N’ Que in Winona will have to wait another year, as the COVID-19 pandemic claimed another casualty in its take-no-prisoners sweep through fun activities.
On the other hand, the Winona Main Street Program came up with an alternative to its annual “Sweet Stroll,” which also fell victim to the novel coronavirus. Several businesses plan to participate in a Crazy Days sale from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15.
Participants include Green Thumb Artistry, Blooming Grounds, Jovy Rockey Jewelry, Baker Shoes, Heart’s Desire, Holtan’s Jewelry, Morgan’s Jewelers, Yarnology, Urban Shoetique, Loft on Third and Chapter 2 Books. They will put signs outside with balloons tied to them to indicate they are participating.
As for Big Muddy, the Winona Area Chamber of Commerce and the Big Muddy Task Force described suspending the event this year as a tough decision.
“But we felt it was in the best interest of public health and safety … to not have the event this year,” according to a joint statement, which also promised that Big Muddy 2021will be the best Labor Day event ever.
