Winter Olympics women’s figure skating results
Russian skaters took the top two spots in women’s figure skating Friday, with Alina Zagitova winning gold and Evgenia Medvedeva taking silver at the PyeongChang Olympics.
Zagitova, 15, led the event after Wednesday’s short program and held onto that lead, scoring 156.65 to match Medvedeva’s free skate score and edge out her 18-year-old rival by a combined score of 239.57 to 238.26.
The gold was the first of the games for Russian athletes, who are competing in PyeongChang under the Olympic Athletes from Russia designation.
Kaetlyn Osmond of Canada won bronze.
American skaters Bradie Tennell, Mirai Nagasu and Karen Chen finished in ninth, 10th and 11th place.
The last Olympic women’s figure skating medal won by the U.S. was a silver by Sasha Cohen at the 2006 Olympics.
