Wis. fish farms apply for new permits

Nearly a hundred Wisconsin fish farms are applying to renew their permits.

Fish farms need a permit from the Department of Natural Resources to operate on a natural body of water. Ninety-six farms in 46 counties have asked the DNR to renew their permits.

DNR officials will grant the permits if they determine that no substantial public interest exists in the waters the farms are using, the farms don’t have a negative effect on public or private rights to those waters and if no one objects within 30 days.

The permit applications available on the DNR’s website.
