Wisconsin apple growers expect good crop

Accomodating weather should lead to good apple season

GALESVILLE, Wis. (WKBT) — Apple growers in Wisconsin say they’re expecting this year’s crop to be a little above average.

Last year’s harvest was unusually large, which had growers worried about this year’s crop. This year is looking more in line with previous apple seasons, though, and one area grower says this year’s crop has been helped by fair weather.

“The weather’s been good to us,” said Joe Ferguson of Ferguson’s Apple Orchard in Galesville. “We didn’t have too bad of a spring or anything so it was pretty good, so it’ll help out a lot.”

According to the United States Department of Agriculture, Wisconsin produced nearly 42 million pounds of apples last year.
