Wisconsin board to consider restrictions on park hunts

MADISON, WI (AP) — The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources’ board is set to consider restrictions on hunting and trapping in state parks.

The Legislature passed a law last year that lifted the general prohibition on both practices in the parks. The law allows the DNR to prohibit hunting and trapping in designated areas, however.

The agency has proposed emergency rules that would prohibit people from shooting guns, bows and crossbows from or across trails and require trappers to use dog-proof snares.

The Natural Resources Board is expected to consider the restrictions at its meeting Wednesday in Pembine. They would go into effect on November 15 if the board approves them.
