Wisconsin Fraternal Order of Police endorses Derrick Van Orden
LA CROSSE (WKBT) – The Wisconsin Fraternal Order of Police endorsed Derrick Van Orden for congress.
The Republican is running for Wisconsin’s 3rd Congressional District.
The Fraternal Order says it supports Van Orden because of his commitment to law enforcement.
Van Orden says there are ways for the federal government to help local officers.
“The federal government needs to be cheerleaders for the police department. They need to come out and say they’re supportive of police officers,” said Van Orden. “When they tried to pass the Justice for George Floyd Act, Section 102 removed qualified immunity for police officers. They need to make sure that a bill like that … is never brought up in congress again. It’s unconscionable.”
Van Orden says he wants more funding for police, as well as mental health and addiction treatment facilities throughout the state.
