Wisconsin GOP lawmaker pushing for pro-life plates
MADISON, WI (AP) — A Republican lawmaker is again pushing a bill to create anti-abortion license plates.
Rep. Andre Jacque’s proposal would create plates that read “Choose Life” with an image of a baby’s footprint. Anyone who wants the plate would have to pay the regular registration fee, the state’s $15 special plate fee and another $25 that would go to Choose Life Wisconsin, a corporation Wisconsin Family Action and Pro-Life Wisconsin have created to funnel the money to crisis pregnancy centers.
Jacque introduced a similar bill last year but it went nowhere. The Assembly’s transportation committee has scheduled a public hearing on the new proposal for Tuesday but its prospects are murky. Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald’s spokesman says the bill isn’t on what he called “the fast track.”
