Wisconsin National Guard unit will help move equipment
OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) — Soldiers in a Wisconsin Army National Guard unit are getting their affairs in order before being deployed to Kuwait.
The 1157th Transportation Company will be called to active duty early next year to help move equipment that was used in Iraq. Lt. Col. Jackie Guthrie says the majority of the unit’s junior personnel will be deployed for the first time. Guthrie says about 130 soldiers are preparing for deployment.
It’s the fifth time since 1990 that the Oshkosh-based unit has been called to active duty. The Oshkosh Northwestern says the last time was in 2006 for a year of service in Iraq.
Spc. Lynn Propson says it will be her first active duty assignment with the 1157th. Propson says she’s excited to serve her country overseas.
