Wisconsin police: Pileup began when driver lost control

GERMANTOWN, Wis. (AP) — Police in southeastern Wisconsin say a major crash this week that involved 10 vehicles and left one person dead began when a car driver lost control on a rain-slicked highway.

Germantown police say 20-year-old Chaz M. Kochevar lost control Tuesday morning and collided with a semitrailer. The semi crossed the grassy median into oncoming traffic, where it caused another semi and seven other vehicles to collide.

Police Chief Peter Hoell said Wednesday that 46-year-old Jeffrey A. Vis of Fond du Lac was pronounced dead at the scene.

Thirty-two-year-old Daniel G. Milczski of Fond du Lac was hospitalized with serious injuries. He was in satisfactory condition Wednesday.

Five others suffered minor injuries, including the driver whose semi crossed the median.

Hoell says it’s still unclear why Kochevar lost control.
