Wisconsin unions emboldened by Ohio vote

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Emboldened by the voters’ rejection of an anti-union law in Ohio Tuesday, Democrats and union leaders in Wisconsin hope to channel momentum from the victory into the effort to recall Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker.

The drive to recall Walker stems from legislation he supported earlier this year that effectively ended collective bargaining for most public workers.

Backers of the recall say results of Tuesday’s vote in Ohio, which rejected a similar law, show that Walker is vulnerable.

Leaders of a petition drive to bring about a recall vote plan to start collecting signatures on Nov. 15. They must get more than 540,000 signatures by Jan. 17.
