WisCorps receives grant from Xcel Energy Foundation

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Xcel Energy Foundation awarded a grant to WisCorps that will assist in summer programming.
The grant funds will support operational costs associated with WisCorps’ summer environmental education camps which began on June 8.
Stephanie Hanna, manager of the WisCorps Environmental Education Program, stated, “We are so honored that the Xcel Energy Foundation selected us a grant recipient! They have been a consistent supporter of our EE programs which has enabled us to provide high-quality environmental education for area children. In this difficult time of COVID-19 which resulted in loss of revenue for our program, we truly appreciate their support of our operational expenses.”
During the summer months, WisCorps provides various nature-themed day camps for children of all abilities, ages 3 to 8. The programs have a low teacher-child ratio and allow children to spend time outdoors, investigate animals living in their national habitat, play games, do crafts, and other activities. This summer, WisCorps implemented specific protocols related to the COVID-19 pandemic which follow the La Crosse County Health Department, state, and CDC recommendations.
