Wizards select Johnny Davis with 10th pick in 2022 NBA Draft
BROOKLYN, NY (WKBT) – La Crosse Central all-time leading scorer Johnny Davis is officially an NBA player.
The Washington Wizards selected Davis with the No. 10 overall pick in Thursday night’s 2022 NBA Draft at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
“My insides just lit up,” Davis said shortly afterward. “I was very excited for that moment. I’ve been waiting for a long time, and more importantly, I’m just really happy that my parents and my family are here to celebrate it with me.”
Davis is coming off a strong college sophomore season with the Wisconsin Badgers. He averaged 20 points and 8 rebounds a game and was named the Big Ten Player of the Year, the Jerry West Award winner, and a First Team All-American.
In addition to Davis’ immediate family, Davis had plenty of support in Brooklyn via Central High basketball:

Davis is the first La Crosse native to be drafted into the league since Glen Selbo in 1943.
His rookie contract, as determined by the collective bargaining agreement, will be a four-year deal with the last two years as team options. His rookie year salary is around $3.9 million.
Davis could wind up starting at point guard for the Wizards, as Washington does not have a veteran point guard currently on its roster.
