WKBT News 8 receives 2014 ‘Friend of Education’ award

Tony Evers presents awards as part of State of Education address

State Superintendent Tony Evers presented five 2014 Friend of Education awards on Thursday, including one to WKBT News 8.

Evers presented the award as part of his annual State of Education address at the Capitol in Madison on Thursday afternoon.

WKBT was the only organization that was honored. The other recipients were Daniel T. Ariens of the Ariens Company in Brillion, Michael Johnson with the Boys and Girls Club of Dane County, Darryl Morin with the League of United Latin American Citizens in Milwaukee County, and Peter Yang with the Hmong American Center in Wausau.

In a news release, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction said WKBT received the award for our efforts to highlight education and local schools through several initiatives, like Assignment: Education, Top Notch Teacher, and The Compassion Project.  Station manager and news director Anne Paape and anchor and education reporter Lisa Klein accepted the Friend of Education Award for News 8.
