Woman dies in Onalaska crash

ONALASKA, Wis. (WKBT) — A woman died last month in a crash at Hwy. 16 and Pierce Road in Onalaska, Onalaska Police Chief Charles Ashbeck said Monday.

Samantha Moore, 33, West Salem, died at Gundersen Health System as a result of her injuries, according to the release.

Authorities responded to the crash at 2:36 p.m. April 21 to find two severely damaged vehicles at the intersection.

Moore was the driver of a red 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan, found on the north shoulder of the westbound lanes of Hwy. 16, according to police. She was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated.

Nancy Koeneke, 80, Bangor, was driving the red 2014 Chevrolet Equinox also involved in the crash. She was injured and taken to Gundersen Health System.

Onalaska police were assisted at the scene by Onalaska Fire and Rescue, La Crosse County Sheriff’s Department, Tri-State Ambulance and the Wisconsin State Patrol Reconstruction Unit.

Police did not release the cause of the crash, which is still under investigation.
