Woman helps grandson escape Dubuque house fire
DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) — Residents have escaped unharmed from a fire that heavily damaged a home just west of downtown Dubuque.
Kathy Sutton told the Dubuque Telegraph Herald that she smelled something burning around 8:30 a.m. Sunday and then spotted the flames in a back bedroom of the home she shares with her son and grandson.
Sutton says she helped her grandson get out safely. It’s unclear whether her son was home when the fire occurred.
The fire cause is being investigated. Dubuque Fire Chief Dan Brown says there is water damage throughout the house, and the roof is gone.
