Woman pulled from western Iowa house fire dies

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) — Fire officials in Council Bluffs say a woman who was found unconscious in her burning home has died.

Atlantic radio station KJAN-AM reports that 77-year old Yon-Sook Kim was overcome by smoke in the Wednesday afternoon house fire. She later died at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs.

Firefighters responded to the blaze after a neighbor reported smoke coming from an attic vent. When firefighters entered the home, they found Kim unconscious in the kitchen.

Chief Alan Byers says a preliminary investigation indicates an accidental cooking fire likely caused the blaze.

An autopsy has been scheduled.
