WSU coach heads to Final Four to support friend
WINONA, MN — For 26 years, Winona State men’s basketball coach Todd Eisner meets with friends and heads down to the Final Four.
“That’s the time when we don’t get to see each other much during the year. We are going to spend 4, 5 days together and hang out,” Todd Eisner said.
The annual tradition will continue this week in San Antonio, however one of his buddies will be a little busy.
“He gets to go there as a coach and I get to go there as one of their biggest fans,” Eisner said.
Loyola-Chicago is making their first Final Four appearance since 1963. The coach is Eisner’s longtime friend Porter Moser.
“My affiliation with Loyola is strictly about Porter. Being best friends with him and playing with him in college. We’ve had a 20 plus year relationship,” Eisner said.
The relationship between Eisner and Moser dates back to 1986 when they were both freshman on the Creighton basketball team.
“Junior and senior year we shared a house together. We were best man in each other’s wedding. He hasn’t changed a lick since I met him when he was 18 years old,” Eisner said.
The friendship will add a new memory on Saturday, Eisner in the stands watching his buddy Porter coach in his biggest game.
“I wouldn’t discount them for anything right now. They have the focus they need. They won’t be intimidated by the stage or who they are playing in any way shape or form. Just so happy for my friend, his family, and his program,” Eisner said.
