Young musicians compete for a special opportunity
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Young musicians across the Midwest are in La Crosse competing for a special opportunity.
21 high school students took the stage at the Viterbo University Fine Arts Center for the Rising Stars Concerto Competition.
After the initial round, judges chose six musicians to play on Saturday evening.
Four finalist will go on to perform with the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra in March.
A few things judges look for in these performances are technique and stage presence.
Events like these are helping young musicians build their careers.
“A lot of them will go on to a career in music and they are building fantastic resumes. They do the circuit in the Midwest, win as much as they can, and it takes them well into their career,” said Janet Roth, the competition coordinator.
This is the 21st annual Rising Stars Concerto Competition.
